It has come to light that some Insurance Companies are now applying an additional clause within the small print of their insurance policies, to drivers that wish to use their own choice of repairer in the event of an accident. This can be as much as an extra £200 for the privilege of using your own repairer rather than using the insurance companies own repair network.

At present we are aware of Aviva Insurance and Swift Cover applying these clauses and we can be certain that there will be more companies following this trend.

We believe this to be a restrictive practice policy and clearly goes against the individuals freedom of choice. We are aware of certain bodies within the motor sector investigating this issue as to the legality of this clause. We would point out that prior to the purchase or renewal of any motor policy, whether it be over the phone or internet please check the small print very carefully, or even make a call to the company as in the event of a claim for your pride and joy, circumstances may well be beyond your control.
